Our forests
In te reo Māori, ’tāmata’ means to be revitalised; a new cultivation, to try something new.
We have held fast to this vision by connecting with local iwi members, council and ecologists to provide the best possible care and restoration.
What started as one man’s dream and a piece of the retired rural countryside has now become the beginning of a new way to restore steep grade farmland for the cultivation of natives and the long-term restoration of biodiversity in this area.
BioBonds is trying something new.
Our thoughts and ideas are realised through collaboration. We are reimagining what it means to revitalise our land. As we look to the future, we know, we need partnerships to get things done. Our land needs us. Our land deserves to be looked after and we honour it by trying a new way.
The birth of BioBonds
Tāmata Hills
The pilot forest, owned by Paul and his business partner overlooks the Kaipara Harbour and consists of 140ha of steep grade 7 farmland that has been revitalised to indigenous forest. The restoration of Tāmata Hills began in 2021 and was completed in 2022. The Green Team have now planted more than 820,000 native trees.
Our future
BioBonds Forests
BioBonds plans to follow in the footsteps of Tāmata Hills and secure significant areas of steep hill country land to convert it to permanent native forest, covenanted in perpetuity. That means they can never again be cut down. Each farm will be funded through the sale of BioBonds and the land will be owned by a non-profit charitable foundation.
