One thing many don’t know about us, Paul and I first connected over double rainbows. That synchronicity set the tone for a friendship rooted in shared values: a deep love for the Earth, a belief in magic and miracles, and a unified mission to restore the land.
No matter what life throws our way, our vision remains clear: to leave this planet better than we found it. To work with the land, not against it. And to honour our role as stewards of Earth, our mothership.
We’re pleased to share that BioBonds is now officially project-managing the Barrier Trust planting initiative, a powerful restoration effort on Aotea, Great Barrier Island.
This project spans 160 acres of coastal farmland at the northern end of Palmers Beach, acquired in April 2025 by the Barrier Trust, a private family trust committed to regeneration.
Reforestation has already begun, starting with pioneer native species including mānuka, kānuka, coprosma, and kauri.
As Paul shared:
“Our goal is to help recreate the native forests that once thrived here, bringing biodiversity, resilience, and beauty back to the land.”
Paul has been working closely with Kauri Park Nurseries and the Motu Community Nursery to coordinate planting efforts and source healthy native seedlings, ensuring this whenua is brought back to life with intention and integrity.
While Paul leads the charge on the coastal front, I’ve been grounding into the garden, planting organic winter vegetables and staying attuned to the rhythms of the Earth.
Our other restoration projects remain in motion, with resource consents pending and funding channels still forming. It’s been a season of deep learning, trust, and holding the vision fiercely while surrendering the timeline.
And just when doubt tries to creep in… the sky opens and a double rainbow appears. Spirit reminding us: It’s already done. Just stay the path.
This past year has tested us, but it’s also affirmed our mission in the deepest way. The more we lean into faith, the more aligned opportunities flow in.
