BioBonds Launches Ambitious Native Reforestation Movement Across Aotearoa
A BioBond™ is a trackable investment designed to fund native reforestation, carbon sequestration and community uplift. Each bond directly supports the planting of indigenous trees, creation of local jobs, revival of cultural and ecological knowledge, and establishment of nature-based wellness centres that reconnect people back to the land.
As co-founder Kyria Mailman explains: “BioBonds is more than carbon offsetting, it’s investing with purpose, profit and soul, and building a future economy rooted in harmony with nature.”
Why New Zealand?
Once cloaked in 80% native forest cover, Aotearoa now retains just 28% of its original woodlands. New Zealand’s sovereignty, rich biodiversity, and manageable scale make it the ideal birth-place for BioBonds, a blueprint intended to be replicated across other regions in ecological need.
Spiritually, Aotearoa is the first country to witness the sunrise each day, symbolically serving as the gateway of planetary renewal. This aligns with Māori concepts of kaitiakitanga — guardianship of land and anchors BioBonds in an ethic of deep care and responsibility.
With the New Zealand pilot now underway, future BioBonds activations are already being scoped in locations such as Bali, where projects will focus on waste cleanup, indigenous-led restoration, and creation of forest-based healing sanctuaries.
Measurable Environmental & Community Impact
BioBonds is designed to be scalable, transparent and verifiable. Each project embeds:
- Verified carbon capture and biodiversity metrics
- Partnerships with local communities and indigenous custodians
- Development of reforested wellness centres
- Educational experiences focused on eco-living, plant medicine and sound healing
These forests will become not only carbon sinks, but also living classrooms, nurturing cultural exchange, scientific research, and collective healing.
Join The BioBonds Movement
BioBonds is now inviting values-aligned investors, philanthropic organisations, environmental trusts and purpose-driven businesses to participate in its inaugural planting projects across Aotearoa.
